About Sickles High School:

Walter L. Sickles High School was built in 1997 and named after Mr.Walter L. Sickles himself. A native of Pennsylvania, he received his PHD in Education Administration at the University of Florida in 1975. He served as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel in Hillsborough County from 1981-1986, and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction until 1987. After serving as Deputy Superintendent from 1987-1989 he served as Hillsborough County Superintendent from 1989-1996.

Walter L. Sickles High School is a four-year comprehensive, traditional public high school, serving grades 9-12. The core curriculum of English, Social Studies, Math, and Science is offered on three levels ~academic, honors, and AP~ for college bound students. Levels 3 and 4 of any foreign language course, are offered on the honors level. A wide variety of elective courses are available at the academic level.

At Sickles High School, Home of the Gryphons, students, teachers, administrators and parents work cooperatively to create graduates that will be academically, technologically and socially prepared contributing members of the twenty-first century.

In order to ensure excellence, we are committed to:
 •Holding high achievement targets for each student in each class.
 •Utilizing Project CRISS (CReating Independence through Student-owned Strategies) in    daily instruction.
 •Training new teachers in CRISS strategies and providing support to new teachers.
 •Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students.
 •Providing intensive Guided Reading to targeted students in addition to regular Guided    Reading instruction.
