Promotion Policy

AIRMAN BASIC THRU MASTER SERGEANT

The cadet promotion system allows cadets to advance from Cadet Airman Basic thru Cadet Technical Sergeant will be based on performance, participation in JROTC activities, and demonstrated leadership potential.

Each rank has a set of requirements structured to account for participation in activities, awards and decorations, length of time in JROTC, and score on the promotion test. Promotion request forms will be available at the end of each grading period.

To be eligible for normal promotion a cadet must be recommended by their flight commander or supervisor, and have served in their current rank for a minimum of nine weeks. Promotion cycles are at the end of each nine week grading period.

No cadet given in-school suspension (ISS) or out-of-school (OSS) during the period preceding the promotion tests will be eligible for promotion unless recommended by the cadet staff and approved by the SASI/ASI.

SENIOR NCO AND OFFICER

Promotion to officer and the top three NCOs will be made on the basis of merit. Final selections will be made by the SASI/ASI. These selections may be based, in part, on the recommendations of the Cadet Corps Commander and Deputy Commander. All cadet officer and senior NCO ranks are temporary and retention of these positions is contingent upon satisfactory performance and behavior.

PROMOTION POLICY FOR TRANSFER CADETS

Cadets transferring to FL-20083 will normally maintain the same rank they held at their previous unit regardless of the branch of service. Contact with the other unit must be made by the SASI/ASI or a copy of the cadet records from the previous unit must be given to FL-20083. Transfer cadets will be eligible for promotion during the next promotion cycle once their rank has been verified. This policy applies to cadet officer and enlisted ranks.

DEMOTION POLICY

A demotion in cadet rank may occur for any of the following circumstances:

  1. Excessive suspensions, (ISS or OSS)
  2. Kissing or any other blatant public display of affection (PDA) while in uniform
  3. Insubordination
  4. Failure to comply with regulations or lawful orders
  5. Failure to prescribe to the principals put forth in the cadet honor code

Cadets serving in leadership positions with temporary rank must understand that their service is an honor and high responsibility. The rank and position may be taken away if any of the above violations occur.
