Academic studies include the following courses: Heritage of Flight, Science of Flight, The Exploration of Space and Global and Cultural Studies. Leader Studies include weekly instruction and practice in Customs and Courtesies, Drill and Ceremonies, Wear of the Uniform, Leadership and Management Studies and cadet squadron activities. Units/Topic To Be Studied:
Academics:
Each year a different course will be taught. In A Journey Into Aviation History, students learn about the development of aviation from ancient times through current day. Science of Flight covers aerial navigation, types of aircraft and how they fly. Exploration of Space gives students information about astronomy and space travel. Global and Cultural Studies teaches students about lie in other parts of the world, with each block covering a different continent. Seniors have the option of taking Management of Cadet Corps, where the grade is a function of their leadership of their fellow cadets. Additionally, the Honors Aviation Ground School course is available for students
who wish to complete the FAA written test requirements for a private pilot’s license. Along with regular academics, students are also exposed to a sample of the military lifestyle and its associated standards of performance and behavior.
Leadership:
Students learn basic drill and ceremonies and how to function as effective team members in group activities. They will learn the fundamentals of proper military dress and appearance, along with the opportunity to apply good followership and leadership principles in group settings such as military briefings, unit staff operations and team sports. The AFJROTC uniform must be worn weekly on a designated day, usually Wednesday. Uniform wear is an important part of our program in teaching responsibility and attention to detail; its wear on a weekly basis is required in order to pass the course.
